Stevie Boyd - Lifeisarope
corde lisse acrobat and circus director

Stevie Boyd - Lifeisarope is a aerial acrobat and circus director.  He is currently the artistic director or FLIC circus school, the foremost centre of contemporary circus in Italy, where he curates the show season and mise-en-scene of student individual and collective work.    He also has created different productions with different collectives, Diverged in 2018 with DueDa Circus Dance Theatre, and BLBL with Collettivo S.A.K in 2012.

Stevie is interested investigating honest and precise movement and expansive emotive stage presence, allowing the circus performer to become a single expressive entity using their discipline, through which themes can be explored in the writing of shows creating a fluid, clear and precise dramaturgy.  He searches this within his own performance as well as the productions he directs and artistic workshops.

His own artistic practice began with three ball juggling many moons ago before moving onto street performance. He moved to Italy in 2009 where, amongst other things, learnt wild expressive Italian hand-gesturing and other performance skills through his training with international teachers and artists in contemporary dance, aerial acrobatics, and narrative circus such as Roberto Magro, Firenza Guidi, Alexandre del Perugia, Elodie Donaque, Roberto Olivan, Sarah Poole, Fred Deb to name but a few.  He has performed across Europe, including the In-festival of the Festival du Rue in Aurillac, at the world famous Opera House Teatro alla Scala, Milan in productions by Giorgio Barberio Corsetti, and Simon McBurney OBE.

Also he performed in the documentary Grazing the Sky on Contemporary Circus in  2013, for the opening ceremony of the new Institue of Art and Design in Plzen, Czech Republic, the opening of the Teatro Caio Melisso of Fondazione Carla Fendi, at Teatro al Sole, Royal Palace of Venaria Reale amongst other events.
